Let's head over to Canada, and take a closer listen at ATAVISTIA's new EP “Inane Ducam (I will lead into nothingness)”. Having followed them since 2020 when they released their great album "The Winter Way", they could also fully convince with their last year's record "Cosmic Warfare", so this new offering was highly anticipated.
The gloomy intro (and title track) sneaks up slowly but steadily, building up a mystical atmosphere, before "Timeless Despair" comes upon us. It also features the same lyrics as the final phrase of "The Void", which represents the repeatability of the EP, overall dealing with how one can find beauty and solace within the darkest depths of one’s own mind and soul.
Musically speaking, these five songs won’t lead us into nothingness, but into Symphonic Black Metal epicness. Huge background orchestration, furious guitar work, pummeling drums… they got them all. While the vocals are mostly in harsh Black Metal style, there are plenty of melodies within the instrumental parts, especially the virtuoso guitar solos, and some clean sung passages bring in a good variety.
Considering their previous, already amazing work, I think this piece is a good step forward for them, and a great addition to their back catalog.
