On April 19th, 2024, Finnish Melodic Death Metal band BLOODY FALLS unleashed their new album via Art Gates Records, following already two full-lengths and an EP since their formation in 2017. The new piece got the name "Amartia", which is the Greek word for "sin" (Αμαρτί), bringing together the lyrical themes without being a concept album in the classical sense.

A while ago, I got introduced to BLOODY FALLS thanks to Max Morton, who is again responsible for the epic production here, so I was curious to hear what the five-piece has been working on. They don't lose time with any kind of intro, stay true to their style by opening straight away with heavy, pounding riffs, fat bass sound, and pummeling drums. Fitting to the lyrics, that are presented with relentless growls, the overall mood is dark, also supported by well placed background orchestration.

Most of the songs remain in these Melodic Death Metal fields, with some variations in tempo and style, like hints of Black Metal or Symphonic elements, and core-like breakdowns. While I'm absolutely diggin' the mighty, harsh vocals, the use of more clean singing could have brought a welcome change every now and then, especially during the slower tracks.

All-together, "Amartia" can convince with its mind blowing sound, and songs that will clearly lead to some audience movement in a live setting. My favorite tracks would be the more proggy "The Curse of the Mark" with its great guitar solo section, the groovy "Sorrow is my Name", as well as the vigorous "The Way of Sin", but even though I'd have wished for a bit more variety here and there, the album works well with a length of around 40 minutes. Crank it up!
