EPs have a way of staying undeservedly under the radar… So here’s one of them that I think should become visible on yours: US Proggers ETHOS released their new offering “An Eye For An Eye” on June 25th, which brought a band to my attention that absolutely deserves a closer listen.
Consisting of 5 tracks, they "Begin With the End", which is a groovy progrock song with smooth bass lines and nice guitar interplays - Good to listen to yet I have to admit this didn't completely catch me at first.
The point at which I really pricked up my ears was "Holy Water", showcasing perfectly what this band has in store. While the opening passage is rough and heavy, the following melody is just mesmerizing, and the respective vocal performance by singer Austen Earp absolutely marvelous in its expression and range.
The remaining three songs are the continuation of "The Archetype Suite", that already started in 2017 on their previous album "Shade & Soil", and it's great to hear how much they evolved their style since then. The band skillfully wanders through proggy fields, sometimes harsh and dissonant, delivering sophisticated chord progressions and rhythm patterns, then again beautiful and accessible with rather classical motifs and virtuosic solo parts.
All-together a great find, and highly recommended to check them out.
