Coming literally out of nowhere for me on March 22nd, NinémiA’s “Weapons of Math Destruction” quickly lined up in the list of astonishing debuts.  What we've got here is an international band founded by Christos Agathokléous, who is the bassist and mastermind behind the project. He joined forces with guitarist Artur Hearhadze (NDNP band), singer Mikolaj Krzaczek (Thamnos Project), and drummer Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth, Soilwork, Devin Townsend, Bent Sea and others).

While the cover artwork made me expect some kind of Progressive or maybe Symphonic Powermetal, I got surprised by a strong 90s nu-metal vibe coming out of the speakers sound-wise, yet with a proggy approach considering the diverse compositions, and the album length way over an hour, featuring 10 songs including the 10 minutes instrumental as title track.

The music is mostly straight-forward with powerful, groovy riffs and roughly sung, yet catchy melody lines, with the hard-hitting bass pushing them even more. In between the rather heavy offering, you’ll also find funky moments, mystical synth soundscapes or a sax interlude, bringing in a great variety and making the album as a whole a huge listening fun.
