While I came across some beautiful prog albums recently, I somehow missed the one or other release on the heavier side to rock my socks off - Until now... Hailing from Sweden, the band's moniker VITTRA evolved out of Vildvittra, which is based on the scary, bird-like characters created by Astrid Lindgren as part of Ronia, The Robber’s Daughter. Fitting to their name's origins and further inspired by the mythical creatures appearing in Swedish folk stories, the five-piece goes wild with their new album, "Intense Indifference", coming your way on September 19th, 2025.

Vittra don't waste time with any kind of intro or playing around, but make the pit circling immediately with "MOFO", delivering razor-sharp riffs, pummeling drums, and raspy harsh vocals. The following "Reign Supreme" marches forward in the same, powerful vein, so does "Burn(h)er", feet and head start moving automatically to the fast, yet groovy beats.

After this powerful opening triple, we reach my favorite tracks, as Vittra throw in some crazy interludes to the high-energetic mix. The "Transylvanian Buffet" gets a wild Rock'n Roll addition including piano, that rolls in completely seamlessly it's pure joy, while the "Soul Searcher" finds a break within a wonderful accoustic guitar section, before turning into a virtuoso solo. "The Leap" fully pushes us back on the Death Metal track, short but intense.

"Bound by Blood" takes down the pace a bit, before "Hate" literally explodes. This might be the most brutal track here, but still melodious with a great bass and guitar part towards the end.

With ten songs all clocking in around 3 minutes, "Intense Indifference" is a short-whiled, mind blowing listen. The overall tempo is high without losing groovyness, and there's enough variety to keep things interesting. Vittra's sound comes along fat and heavy yet catchy, and I'm a sucker for these furious guitar solos as well as the playful details within the moshing madness, which clearly will work well in a live setting. Highly recommended to crank it up!
